The Woodvalley House project won the AIA Baltimore 2008 Residential Design Award. This project, which was done in coordination with architect Ziger/Snead, provides its owner with a contemporary, private retreat. The house, nestled into the hillside to minimize the scale of its 6,200 SF, affords direct and unobstructed access and views to the landscaped rear yard, gardens, and wooded ravine beyond the edge of the property.

In ABC – Associated Builders & Contractors magazine, the Union Memorial Hospital Helipad was featured as a 2008 Excellence Winner. It also incorporated the specific code requirements from IFC Chapter 11 (Aviation Facilities) and NFPA 418 (Heliports). The design included:
- Foam fire-extinguishing system for the pad
- Storm water drains for pad independently collected and piped to existing storm water system
- A heating system for the slab for snow and ice removal
- A storm water trench drain at the ramps edge
- Extension of fire standpipes to helipad elevation
- Specialized lighting per FAA requirements
- Area lighting for rooftop and Access Bridge
- Maintained Hospital HVAC service from rooftop Air Handling Units 3 and 4 (37,500cfm each) during the construction by headering the units together. Modifications included rerouted outdoor air ductwork and fans, charcoal filters, and new louvers to alleviate possible issues caused by the helicopter exhaust.

In September, Irvine Nature Center opens the doors to its new campus in Owings Mills. This highly anticipated event
heralds the newest offering for Marylanders seeking information and inspiration for living a greener, more active life.
The new facility provides Baltimore a wonderful new destination with a rich programmatic history. Visitors enjoy a
green building, state-of-the-art exhibits, and a beautiful 116-acre campus with miles of trails to explore.
But it will also be much more than a destination. The new Irvine will be a community resource, a place where people of
all ages can learn about nature and how to live a more active life.
The Henry Adams Scholarship was presented to the
winner at an ASHRAE awards banquet. Congratulations Alyssa Adams.
