Under an on-call contract as the prime consultant, Henry Adams provided the MEP engineering design for the HVAC replacement project for Alexandria City Public Schools. The scope consisted of eight total units, RTUs 1-6 and heat pump units 7 and 8 at George Washington Middle School.

The purpose of this project was to promote better outdoor air ventilation controls, eliminate water infiltration through worn seals and unnecessary outdoor air infiltration that can adversely affect the unit’s performance by replacing air handling units with new equipment. In addition, the new equipment improves conditioned supply air delivery, and reduces the operating cost with improved energy efficiency.

The project included alterations made to the school’s existing HVAC system to accommodate the new rooftop equipment. Overall, the mechanical scope consisted of HVAC, associated building controls, and condensate drainage.

The electrical engineering scope includes power to support the new mechanical equipment.
