Under an on-call contract as the prime consultant, Henry Adams provided the electrical engineering design for a partial lighting renovation within Hawkins Hall. The building houses several departments including Early Childhood Education, College of Education, Educational Technology & Literacy, Instructional Leadership & Professional Development, Secondary & Middle School Education, as well as the Maryland Writing Project and Teacher Educational Oral History Project. The building also features an Au Bon Pain Café.

The project scope included lighting and lighting controls design for the entire building encompassing five floors. Part of the project included a field survey to identify significant ceiling conditions. The existing lighting and exit signs were replaced on a one-for-one basis in accordance with Campus Standards. Where lighting levels were insufficient to meet standards, supplemental fixtures were added. The existing lighting control stations were replaced to meet IECC requirements using Campus Standards. These controls were generally stand-alone (non-networked) 2-button, dual level occupancy sensor switch in small offices. To replace HVAC diffusers, Campus Standard diffusers and grillers were used to suit CFM as indicated on the as-built drawings.

The project design was completed in accordance with Towson University requirements for ceiling grid and ceiling tile specifications, HVAC diffusers and grilles, and lighting fixtures and lighting controls.
