Henry Adams provided the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, communication, and fire protection engineering design services for the new award-winning 2,600 SF Watershed Center. The new building consists of lobby areas, exhibit space, 50-person meeting room, small conference room, offices, public toilets, storage, and mechanical space. The meeting room will be used for lectures, films and educational programs. The building is designed in accordance with LEED Standards and has achieved Gold LEED status. The design incorporates many sustainable features, including the use of extensive green roofs over the entire building, a composting toilet, natural ventilation, rain storage system, and sustainable materials where appropriate.  The mechanical design incorporates a variable air volume system with a high efficiency gas furnace. The air supply distribution is overhead through ceiling mounted diffusers. Natural ventilation is provided for all spaces through operable windows.  Plumbing systems include design for storm water, sanitary drainage, and domestic water supply systems. Energy conversation methods were incorporated through flow restrictor fittings on lavatories, self-closing faucets, an instantaneous gas water heater, and composting system. Dual flush toilets on the ground level are supplied from a rain storage system with an integral City water backup. Where applicable, plumbing system design was in accordance with ADA Compliance.
