Baltimore City Public Schools, Baltimore Design School
Henry Adams worked with Ziger/Snead Architects to renovate the abandoned 115,000 GSF historic 3-story Crown Cork and Seal Machine Shop located near the Penn Train Station into a fashion, architecture, and design school for the Baltimore City Public School System. The building design features classrooms, student galleries, studios/ labs, media center, dining hall, workout room, and courtyard performance space.
The building is on the Maryland Historic Registry, and it will obtain a Baltimore City Green Building Level 3 Green Star rating. The project was awarded $3M in Sustainable Communities Tax Credits for its dedication to restoring a historic structure in a sustainable manner.
Additionally, the Baltimore Design School has been awarded 14 awards to date - including a 2014 Historic Preservation Award by Baltimore Heritage and a national 2014 Committee on Architecture for Education Design Excellence Award.
