MD DGS, Risteau District Courthouse Elevator

Under an on-call contract, Henry Adams provided the MEP design for the $407K elevator replacement in the district courthouse. This involved the replacement of all major components of Elevator 1 and Elevator 2, except for the cabs.

The 25-year-old, 2-cable traction, 5-stop elevators were modernized. The controls, accessibility and emergency power were upgraded, HVAC was added to machine rooms, doors were replaced, and recall systems were modified to add an alternate floor. Cab interiors were given upgrades to lighting, flooring, and side panels. The work included code requirements of the shafts, cab, elevator machine rooms, and elevator penthouse.

This design took into account that the cables and governors were recently replaced at the start of this project, speed and capacity were sufficient, and the replacement needed to be phased to provide at least one working elevator at all times.

The team included an elevator consultant that developed specifications and drawings for the selection of the new equipment for the modernization.

The replacements were phased in order to provide one working elevator.
